Medway Regatta - Kestrel Open 2010 - Wilsonian Sailing Club

Report & Results
10th/11th July

The Medway regatta open was blessed with very hot sunshine hence boats were rigged in the cool of Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

Saturday 10th – The first race started with the fleet drifting over the start line but once round the bend in the corner of the river they were met by a gentle sea breeze. 1510 Jeremy and Jane Drummond led the way until being caught by 1548 Paul and James Jarvey, 1574 Dave Hearsum and Duncan Wilson. 1510 managed to hold off 1511 Steve Worf and Ian Drummond to give them third.

The second race started the abandonment of start sequence as the breeze died and no one could get back over the line. Once a new wind filled in they managed to get the race underway. The Kestrels were led down the river by 1572 Brian Deacon and Karen Hall, at the bottom mark they were overtaken by 1548 and also were impeded by some keel boats trying to round the same mark. At the finish 1548 led from 1574 followed by 1511.

Sunday 11th – The third race of the weekend on Sunday morning brought a good breeze, coming from the south west. 1511 led the way with the rest of the fleet chasing hard. 1574 took the lead with some good down wind speed. 1548 after recovering from a poor start and battling through the fleet took first place, second was 1574 and third was 1511. A battle ensued between 1572 and 1510 with 1572 getting the better of 1510 at the finish.

The fourth race of the weekend saw a diminished fleet as the wind increased, age and fitness took its toll and with the Nationals in Dundee just round the corner it was thought prudent to save body and boat by some of the fleet. Third place overall was yet to be decided. The race saw a tight battle between 1510 and 1511 with 1511 finally getting away and opening up a gap that was enough to see them win, with 1510 second and 1572 third.
