Midland Championship 2010 - Stewartby Water Sailing Club Report & Results |
|
Just for a change the weatherman got it absolutely right with their predictions of high temperatures and very little wind. They also forecast less wind on the Sunday, which again was unfortunately correct. As the temperature headed to the mid twenties the only pairing who were able to keep their cool were Dusty Miller and John Ellingham. They scored three straight wins on Saturday and won race four on the Sunday morning. They then decided not to risk their reputation any more and declined to do the final race on Sunday knowing that the Midland Area Championship trophy was already theirs. Duncan Wilson with Tim Browning took a well deserved second place overall with two seconds and a fifth on the Saturday and a fourth and a first on the Sunday. Their second place overall was nowhere near secure until the final race on Sunday. Duncan and Tim had to fend off the advances of David Hearsum and Gareth Fay in the last race to take second overall. Dave and Gareth had to settle for the third overall after scoring two thirds and a second on the Saturday and a second and third on the Sunday. Steve Worf with his new crew for this summer, novice sailor Izzy Fay, sailed a good consistent series to finish fourth overall. I would like to thank Stewartby for hosting this event and especially to the race officer and his team for what was definitely the hardest part of the event. A mention must go to Allan and Jules Barnstaple who had travelled up from the Bristol area to compete and had to return early on Sunday morning after Jules' daughter decided to give birth to Jack somewhat earlier than planned. We wish them all well and maybe one day Jack will be sailing a Kestrel. Dave Hearsum |
