2007 Kestrel Inland Championships

For the Kestrels, Rutland Water usually means strong winds and freezing cold weather and they did not disappoint as the weather was a good force five on the Saturday and freezing cold on the Sunday but with lighter winds. The race schedule was for three races back to back each day and the Kestrels shared the race course with the Albacores and Wayfarers. It was tough going on the Saturday with three fleets flying around the Olympic course but the Sunday with slightly lighter winds to begin with, the race officer set a bigger course which allowed the fleets to keep much further apart, which gave us all a much easier time.

With four wins from six races, Dusty Miller with John Ellingham won the Kestrel Inland Championship and the first event of the year. Paul and James Jarvey tried everything they could to get the better of Dusty (including sailing upside down) but this was not their weekend. A capsize in race two and a broken kicker in race three meant that they had to settle for second best with three seconds and three thirds. Dave Hearsum with Gareth Fay had a first, a second, two thirds and a fourth with a retirement meant they only managed third overall. Liam Pike and Alistair Luxford also had a win in the last race but their win with a second, a third, two fourths and a fifth as their discard meant that they finished fourth but only two points behind second place.
Steve and Lin Worf finished fifth and newcomers to the fleet, Moira and Jon Moore finished a creditable sixth.
