2007
Kestrel Southern Area Championship Race 1 started in 23 knots of breeze with a lively Solent chop that later claimed a mast and a boom. Miller and Pike both made good starts and were first and second respectively as both popped the kites. Miller won by a considerable margin followed by Pike, Jarvey, Worf and Brown-Lee doing well to finish 5th in the very trying conditions Race 2 Race 2 was postponed to the Sunday. It started in 5 knots of breeze. Miller drifted over the start line 1st, followed my Jarvey and pike. They crossed the finish line in the same order after a very uneventful race. Race 3 The wind slightly increased in race 3. Miller and Pike comfortably ahead of the pack up the beat. Pike tacked late and was rapidly taken up by the tide allowing Worf and Glasspool in at the windward mark. A good downwind leg saw Pike and Hearsum crawl into 2nd and 3rd for the finish. Race 4 Miller had done enough to win overall so chose to work on his much needed sun tan. This left second and third place open with pike on 4 points and Jarvey on 5 after one disguard. Pike lead out the start with Hearsum 1st to the windward mark closely followed by Worf, pike and Jarvey. Eventually Jarvey broke free from the pack to win with pike taking 2nd from Hearsum. Dusty Miller and John Ellingham are the Southern Area Champions. Jarvey and Pike were tied on points and after tie break Jarvey took second overall and Pike third. All of the competitors expressed their thanks to Calshot S.C. for another good event. Alistair Luxford
